Love his 4 principles. So very important. But wonder if wrapping oneself's identity up in the community does not create its own problem. Would require much faith. And like the point he makes about talking about the vision to keep the church moving forward and insync, not waiting for the time to vote to discuss it. Great interview

Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us. Total Church is one of my favorite books (just recently re-read it in preparation for moving to New York to plant churches among immigrant groups). I love Steve's challenge for us as leaders to get away from this professionalized, 9-5 clergy mindset that only perpetuates our people's misunderstandings of the church.

I have listened to T. D. Jakes for years and admire his ministry. I am a graduate of Oral Roberts University (M.Div.) and get questioned at times if my degree really means anything!!!!! People would (and still do) "bad mouth" brother Oral and Richard (and others), but I tell them when you have built a ministry and a university for the glory of God, THEN you may have the right to judge.
Thank you Brother Jakes for your openess and your ministry for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Brother Smith it was nice to read an article of this nature. You pointed out a huge issue that many leaders struggle with which is humility. We deal with pre-conceived notions whether someone said it or an interpretation of an article we read. I am glad that the Holy Spirit works in all of us and allows us moments like these to realize that we just might not have it all figured out like we thought. I believe in TD Jakes ministry and have personally met him, he is like you say..."the real deal".

Blessings on your journey!

Wow. You don't see this being said very often. Excellent and needed post. I have seen the same things too many times.

"Simply put, the real problem is that church discipline is seen as hurtful instead of helpful."

And the root of it is described here--Love, Prayer, and Forgiveness: When Basics Become Heresies.
